1. For a little mystery, send the unsuspecting bride-to-be on a “scavenger hunt” through the town or just through the house. Let the first “clue” be written on the card with a bouquet of flowers. Each clue leads to the next until she find you on one knee.

2. Present the future bride with three roses. Tell her that one rose represents the past, one represents the present, and the final one represents the future (that will be the one with the ring tied to it!)

3. Decorate a Christmas tree with lights and only one ornament-a ribbon or bow tied around a velvet ring box. Ask her over for a Christmas celebration for just the two of you.

4. Order take-out from your favorite Chinese restaurant. Arrange to have her fortune cookie contain a special message: “Will you marry me?”

5. Go out for dinner and arrange to have the box with a diamond ring inside be one of the “desserts” on the dessert tray.

6. Wait for a rainy afternoon and challenge her to a game of Scrabble because “you’re bored.” Spell out as your first word “marry me.”

7. Propose on New Year’s Eve. Start a conversation about your new year’s resolutions. Have one of yours be to make her your wife.

Tips on caring for your pearls

Cosmetics, perfume, hairspray all contain chemicals that may dull the luster of a pearl over time. Pearls should be the last thing you put on (after the application of makeup, perfume, and hair products). It is a good idea to wipe your pearls with a soft, moist cloth each week to remove any traces of these harmful elements. Only use jewelry cleaners that are labeled safe for pearls.

Pearls are best stored in a soft cloth pouch or separate, lined compartment of your jewelry box as other hard or sharp jewelry can scratch them.

If you wear your pearls often, it is best to have them restrung at least once a year with an individual knot between each pearl.

Never use toothbrushes or any type of abrasive material to clean your Pearls. Never expose them to dish or laundry detergents, bleaches, powdered cleansers, baking soda or any ammonia based cleaner like Windex. Never use any type of ultrasonic cleaner or steam cleaner.

Never store your pearls in any type of plastic bag. Plastic can emit a chemical that will cause the surface of the Pearl to deteriorate.

Never leave your pearls around a direct source of heat such as a fireplace mantle, on top of a television set, or stove.

Never store your Pearls in a very dry room or in a safe deposit box for a long time. Your Pearls need a little moisture like your skin so that they will not dry out.
